Escape the city for a day and experience the wild beauty of Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park and home to the Big Five.
Your day starts with an early pickup from Kigali at around 5:30 AM. Enjoy a 2.5-hour drive east to Akagera, passing through rural landscapes, banana plantations, and peaceful hills. When you arrive at the park, your guide will take care of the entrance formalities and then you’ll begin your full-day game drive.
You’ll explore the park in a private 4x4 vehicle, moving through open savannah, wooded hills, and lake shores. Akagera is known for its rich variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, baboons, and warthogs. With a bit of luck, you might even spot lions or a shy leopard. Around midday, stop for a picnic lunch at one of the park’s scenic viewpoints or by the lakeside.
In the afternoon, continue your game drive toward the northern plains, which offer the best chances for big game sightings. Later, exit the park and return to Kigali in the evening, bringing home unforgettable safari memories.
