This is one of Rwanda’s most rewarding day hikes, taking you into the dramatic volcanic landscape of Volcanoes National Park. Your journey with Iriza Tours & Safaris begins with an early morning pick-up from Kigali and a scenic drive north through the Rwandan countryside to Kinigi.
The hike takes you through bamboo forest, subalpine vegetation, and open mountain slopes, with beautiful views along the way. The ascent takes around 4 hours at a relaxed pace, while experienced hikers may complete it in about 3 hours.
At the summit, discover Mount Bisoke’s Crater Lake, a spectacular volcanic lake surrounded by mist and mountain scenery. After some time to rest and take photos, begin the descent, which usually takes 2–3 hours. Trails can be muddy, particularly during the rainy season.
