Day 1: Kigali – Nyungwe Forest – First Campsite
We begin with an early pickup from your accommodation in Kigali and head southwest through Rwanda’s rolling hills, stopping along the way for photos and lunch. After arriving at Uwinka Visitor Center in Nyungwe, you’ll meet your park ranger and start the first leg of the Cyinzobe Trail, hiking around 3 hours to your first forest campsite. The hike is gentle and offers a great introduction to the park’s rich plant life. Enjoy dinner and overnight in wooden cabins nestled in the forest.
Day 2: Full-Day Forest Hike – Kamiranzovu Swamp & Waterfall
After breakfast in the forest, we set out for the longest stretch of the trail — around 6 hours of hiking. This section takes you deeper into the forest, past giant ferns, orchids, and mossy paths. The highlight is the dramatic Kamiranzovu Swamp and Waterfall, a stunning and peaceful area home to many birds and amphibians. After a picnic lunch, we continue through changing terrain before arriving at the second cabin for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Final Hike – Tea Fields – Return to Kigali
On your final day, enjoy a relaxed 3-hour hike out of the forest, ending near Gisakura. Along the way, you’ll pass through bird-filled canopy zones and spot tea plantations in the distance. After the hike, we’ll stop for a tea experience or local lunch (optional) before driving back to Kigali, arriving in the evening.
